When I joined band in 6th grade, I had a very different experience from piano: not only did I have fun playing the drums –  I enjoyed hanging out with my friends at the same time! I continued playing drums in the band during middle school, high school, college, and even now, I’m still playing in local community ensembles.

Playing the piano was how I fell in love with music, but being part of an ensemble – which feels like having a second family – is what kept me excited to continue learning and playing music, and it’s the reason I’m continuing to enjoy making music with others today.
